Boston College announced this week at a webinar that home football games will take place without fans in the month of September. The Heights publicized the story yesterday.
This isn’t exactly the biggest announcement, given that the game against Ohio on September 12th has been cancelled leaving no home games in the month of September anyway. But it’s possible Boston College could replace the game against Ohio with someone else on short notice, and that game would be played without fans.
Having said that, it does give a window into where things stand in the athletics department with regards to having fans at football games in the near future. It’s possible things can improve between now and the October 3rd game against North Carolina, but we now know that BC’s unwilling to let fans in the building with this baseline level of infection in the state of Massachusetts.
Of course, with the Big Ten and PAC-12 cancelling their seasons already, there’s still quite a bit to play out before the year’s first kickoff, so we’ll continue to keep an eye out for anything new.
