Boston College alumna Kristie Mewis is the first former Eagle to win a trophy in the age of COVID 19. Today, Mewis and the Houston Dash won the 2020 Challenge Cup, a Tournament created to mark the NWSL’s return to action.

Comprised of a preliminary round and a knockout round, the tournament began with all 9 NWSL teams and decreased to the top 8 teams for knockouts. Houston went into the knockout round in 4th place with 4 points after going 1-1-2 in preliminary play. However, the Dash began to dominate in the second stage of play, knocking off #5 Utah in penalty kicks, beating #8 Portland 1-0, and defeating #6 Chicago 2-0 to win it all.

Mewis started all of Houston’s 7 tournament games, although she left the championship game midway through the first due to injury. She recorded 1 goal and 1 assists in the tournament in addition to drawing the penalty that resulted in today’s game-winning goal.
