Eagles on the Watch Lists

Five Eagles have their names on college football’s preseason award watch lists.

David Bailey assumes the Doak Walker award mantle from AJ Dillon, a semifinalist for the award last season. Bailey’s over 800 yards and eight touchdowns with Dillon leading the way was more than enough to put everyone on notice for this season’s award.

For the offensive line, unsurprisingly, two Eagles have made the Outland Award trophy’s watch list. The award goes to the nation’s top interior lineman on either side of the ball. Zion Johnson and Ben Petrula were named alongside 83 others, seven others from the ACC. Petrula was also recognized on the watch list last season. After an All-ACC campaign, Johnson found himself not only on this list, but also noted on some preseason All-American teams.

Tight end Hunter Long finds himself on the Mackey Award Watch list. Even before leading the Eagles in receiving yards last season, Long was honored on the watch list in 2019 as well. Six ACC tight ends were put on watch.

Linebacker Max Richardson landed on two lists, the Nagurski Trophy and Butkus Award. He is among 16 other ACC players on the Nagurski list, and one of 51 linebackers named to the latter. The Bronco Nagurski trophy is given annually to the nation’s top defensive player. Ohio State’s Chase Young and Clemson’s Isaiah Simmons won the awards, respectively, last season.

Congratulations to each of these Eagles for being recognized. Note that finding your name these watch lists does not preclude you from being recognized for the award.
