Earlier today the Hershey Bears announced that they have re-signed Boston College men’s hockey alumnus Steve Whitney for the 2020-21 season. This will be Whitney’s third season with Hershey and his fourth season in the Washington Capitals system.
Whitney has 20 points (including 11 goals) over 65 games with the Bears. He played just 15 AHL games last season due to injury, but still managed to record 2 goals and 2 assists. Whitney also played 5 games in the ECHL with the South Carolina Stingrays last year and picked up 5 goals and 4 assists, averaging just under 2 points per game.
Prior to joining the Capitals organization in 2017 (when he spent a full season with the Stingrays) Whitney spent a season and change with the Norfolk Admirals when they were an AHL team, a season with the ECHL’s Florida Everblades, and 2 seasons back with the Admirals who now compete in the ECHL.
Whitney played at Boston College from 2009-2013, recording 128 career points and winning 2 NCAA Championships. He also made the NCAA All-Tournament Team in 2012.
Whitney’s older brother, Joe, who is also a Boston College alumnus, has spent the past 2 seasons playing for Linköping HC in Sweden and has yet to announce his plans for 2020-21.
