Update (Wed. Jun 3, 11:11 AM): Boston College has confirmed Patrick Kraft has been named athletic director.

Patrick Kraft, currently the athletic director at Temple, is expected to be named the new athletic director at Boston College. Yahoo! Sports’ Pete Thamel was the first to report the news on Twitter.

We profiled Patrick Kraft here on BC Interruption (which can be found here), but he does bring a bit of experience improving facilities on Temple’s campus. He also has a history of significant fundraising, and also notably ushered the Temple men’s crew and women’s rowing programs out of a period of uncertainty, a skill that may come in handy in the wake of COVID-19 cuts.

On the other hand, this is a departure from the mold that brought Martin Jarmond to the Heights. Kraft’s pedigree leaves something to be desired. While he did serve as a Senior Assistant Director at Indiana, his substantive collegiate athletic experience comes from Loyola (IL) and Temple, obviously two programs that are not quite on the level of a place like Ohio State, where Jarmond came from, or even Boston College.

As a corollary, Kraft oversaw the hiring of a replacement for legendary coach Fran Dunphy following the 2018-19 men’s basketball season, though it was more of a coach-in-waiting situation as his assistant Aaron McKie was hired to be the new coach.

We will have more on this story as it develops.
