The final Finn has signed - Boston College senior forward Julius Mattila joins his fellow Eagle Finns in signing a professional contract to play in Finland with the announcement of a two year deal with Lukko. Julius’s twin brother Jesper and fellow Finn (and junior) Aapeli Räsänen both signed with KalPa in early April.

Mattila was a top offensive player during his time at BC, particularly during his senior year when he played with David Cotton and Logan Hutsko. He nearly doubled his points from junior to senior year, ending the (shortened) season with 42 points (10 goals, 32 assists). Mattila leaves BC with 108 career points.

Many expected Mattila to sign a professional contract to play in the United States, and even Lukko mentions in the press release of his signing that they would be surprised if he does not leave for the NHL before his 2 year contract is up. With the ongoing public health crisis, chances are that signing a contract to play in his home country until the NHL announces their plans for 2020-21 just seemed like a safer bet both in terms of health and in terms of actually getting to play next year.

Congratulations to Julius on his new contract!
