Jim Christian likely got his Jairus Hamilton replacement today in the form of Rider Forward Frederick Scott:
BREAKING
— All Facts (@AllFactsMedia) April 9, 2020
Boston College gets a commitment from Rider grad transfer Frederick Scott! Scott, a 6’8 forward averaged over 12ppg while adding 5rpg and shooting 40% from the 3pt line. Scott will join fellow MAAC grad transfer Rich Kelly in Chesnut Hill. Huge get for Jim Christian
Last year at Rider College, Scott started 18/30 games and put up 12 points and nearly 6 rebounds per game, good for second on the team in both categories. It earned him a spot on the All-MAAC 3rd team for the second year in a row.
Scott comes in looking like an immediate contributor as a stretch-three or four who could provide good spacing on the offensive end. His 37.3% three-point percentage is far better than the 30% the team shot last year, and it would have made him the second most effective deep threat after Jay Heath.
A quick film review of Scott definitely confirms his ability to shoot the three (he hit a buzzer beater to upset Penn St in 2017-18), but there’s not a lot to break down his defensive form.
I’d be curious to see where Christian goes with the frontcout lineup this year. There’s a lot of combinations of Scott/Felder/Mitchell/Kraljevic/Vanderbaan (with a dash of Kamari Williams) that might be effective, but unless Kraljevic improves a lot and Vanderbaan comes in ready, it lacks a true rim protector. Time will tell, I suppose.
Welcome Frederick! Go Eagles!
A quick note from BCI’s Senior Basketball Writer turned ‘Contributor’:
As many of you have called out, the basketball coverage over the last few weeks has been pretty non-existent. We’re sorry. There are a couple of reasons for this. We’re a little short staffed, and the basketball side has been stretched pretty thin. Yours truly has been working overtime on COVID-19 response for the State of California, while simultaneously taking grad school classes and being demoted due to California’s new independent contractor law (AB 5). My contract with Vox media and BCI technically ended 9 days ago, and I can no longer be tasked to do anything with the site (though I can volunteer, as I did today). We’re working out transitions and everything else, so hopefully MBB analysis will be back again shortly.
Not trying to make excuses (though this may seem like one), but just keeping you all informed.
