Boston College's early season struggles continued this weekend, as a three game sweep at #23 Clemson dropped BC to 5-9.
Errors plagued the Eagles in a sloppy opener on Friday. Mason Pelio put together a solid start, holding the Tigers to 5 hits and 2 earned runs across six innings, but Clemson scored unearned runs against Pelio and reliever Joey Walsh.
Locked in a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the 8th, a failed pick off throw to first advanced the runner to third, and the Tigers singled him home for the game deciding run.
Clemson tagged BC starter Joe Mancini for 11 runs, 7 earned, on 9 hits and 4 walks in 4.2 innings in a 12-5 game two win.
BC catcher Peter Burns went 2-3 with a triple, home run, and 2 RBIs, pulling BC back into the game in the top of the 4th--but it was all Clemson the rest of the way.
Boston College looked poised to take game three after they built a 6-3 lead on a Jack Cunningham home run and 3 RBI performance from Luke Gold.
But Clemson scored four unanswered runs in the final four innings, capped by a game ending fielder's choice that secured a 7-6 win and the series sweep.
