Boston College Athletics is trying something new this year with their iconic superfan shirts.
First, they are putting the designs up to a vote.
Second, they are… maroon?

First of all, No. 5 no question. Second, seeing these shirts for the first time is a bit of a jolt. To be fair, the fact that the shirts were going to be redesigned for the next academic year isn’t exactly news, but seeing them designed is… a bit odd.
A couple notes for feedback: first, I am actually a huge fan of the maroon shirts. Don’t get me wrong, my gold superfan shirt will always hold a special place in my heart, but I know a lot of students didn’t like the color of the superfan shirt, and that’s why they weren’t worn as much. My question is, what exactly is separating these shirts from something you can buy from the bookstore? I loved the gold superfan shirts because they were special, unique to the students who went to BC. They were ours. These shirts really don’t seem all that dissimilar to just something you can buy off the rack at Hillside or McElroy Commons.
With that said, I applaud the effort. I’m happy the athletic department (and students, as I believe this was a Campus Activities Board work) are doing something to make the shirts more palatable, because people might actually start wearing them to games.
But, maybe keep the word “Superfan” on the shirt? Just sayin’.
