Boston College limps into the ACC tournament on the heels of a five game losing streak but does so with a chance to turn it around. The Eagles first opponent will be the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame with whom BC split the season against, thanks to a last second basket by T.J. Gibbs in the two teams’ second meeting. The Irish finished even 10-10 in ACC play with their best conference wins coming against Clemson, Syracuse, and Virginia Tech. This is a good first match-up for the Eagles. With wins over Virginia, Virginia Tech, and NC State the Eagles proved they can hang with some of the conference’s best teams. Even in their loss to Notre Dame, BC overcame a late second half deficit displaying the grit the Eagles have shown at times this season; “at times,” are the key words. Inconsistency, has been the sole constant for BC this year. Getting players like the Hamilton brothers and Nik Popovic back will certainly help but the story is the same as it has been all year long: If the Eagles can put two great halves of basketball together they can go far in this tournament.
