Boston College Men’s Basketball Defeats Maine

NCAA Basketball: Syracuse at Boston College Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports

So BCI men’s basketball writer Peter might be psychic, because he predicted the exact final score of today’s game against Maine in his preview this morning: 78-62 Eagles.

As expected, this was a fairly easy win for BC, which isn’t a bad thing since this team needed a confidence boost. After the Eagles opened the scoring with a layup from Jay Heath, Maine did end up taking a tiny 6-2 lead, but BC didn’t let that stand for long and the Eagles would go on to lead by as much as 24 points later in the game.

Turnovers and steals are where this game was really won. BC led in shooting overall at 44% to 41% and made 9 3-pointers to Maine’s 8, but Maine led in rebounds 40-36. However, Maine made an abysmal 24 turnovers to BC’s respectable 11, and the Eagles made 15 steals while the Black Bears managed just 3.

The Eagles had 4 players score in the double digits: Jay Heath led the team with 16 points, CJ Felder picked up 14 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 blocks, Wynston Tabbs added 10 points, and James Karnik scored 10 points and grabbed a game-leading 7 rebounds. Meanwhile Makai Ashton-Langford scored 9 points and had 4 steals - more steals than the entire Maine team.

The Eagles will have a bit of time off for Christmas before returning to ACC play on December 30th as they head to NC State.
