The women’s basketball team adds 3 new players to the roster this season - forward Sydney McQuietor and guards Kaylah Ivey and Jo Jo Lacey. This recruiting class is ranked 21st in the country and 6th in the ACC. Even if it takes some time for these freshmen to settle into NCAA play, they are very promising in regards to the future of this team under Coach McNamee.
McQuietor is listed between 6’2” and 6’3”, so she adds some great height to the team. She missed her senior season due to injury, so it might take her a bit longer than the other freshmen to get into the swing of things. As a junior, she recorded 533 points, 497 boards, and 90 blocks for her high school team. She graduated with 1,167 career points over just 3 seasons, and she’s a top 20 recruit in her position.
Ivey is another top 20 recruit in her position and is a top 100 recruit amongst all players. She recorded 1,424 career points in high school and was a Washington Post All-Met first team as a senior. Off the court, she was her high school class’s salutatorian.
Lacey is a 6’1” guard/forward who is ranked 6th in her position and is a top 50 recruit amongst all players. She led her high school team to its first championship in 23 years and averaged 12.3 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 2.2 steals last season.
