Eamon Powell Drafted 116th Overall by Tampa Bay Lightning

The freshman defenseman is headed to Florida!

NHL: Tampa Bay Lightning at Dallas Stars Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Tampa Bay has drafted Boston College incoming freshman Eamon Powell with the 116th pick in the 2020 NHL draft. Powell will likely have a strong change to jump right onto the Eagles blue line when and if the 2020-21 begins, as BC is looking to replace a number of defensemen from last year’s team.

Powell is listed at 5’11” and is described as a strong skating, mobile, puck moving defenseman. His smaller frame and lack of a plus shot kept him from going earlier in the draft, but he is projected to be a solid two way defenseman in a time where undersized, mobile defensemen are becoming more and more successful in both college and the NHL.

With BC looking to replace four graduating seniors on their blue line, Powell should have every chance to make an impact with the Eagles from day one. Congratulations to Eamon and best of luck during your time with BC and beyond!
