Leading up to its nationally televised game against North Carolina, the Boston College football team was dealt a major blow.
Pete Thamel of Yahoo! Sports reported Saturday afternoon that Deon Jones was scratched from the lineup Saturday due to a reported elbow injury sustained against Texas State during the Eagles’ second game.
Sources: BC starting safety Deon Jones is out for the UNC game today. He injured his elbow against Texas State. Big loss against UNC’s relentless offense.

This is a big loss, particularly against an air-raid offense with two solid wide receivers and a very capable quarterback in Sam Howell under center. BC will need all the manpower in pass coverage it can get, and losing a reliable safety like Jones certainly won’t do the Eagles any favors.
In any event, look for the Eagles to make some last minute changes to its pass coverage in response to the injury.
