The Boston College women’s volleyball team continued with a difficult start to their season on Friday afternoon, dropping the first match of a weekend series with Syracuse 3-0. With this loss, the Eagles are now 0-5 in their abbreviated season.
Syracuse took a back-and-forth first set 25-21, using a four point run to open up a lead after BC had cut it to 17-16 at one point. The two teams were very evenly matched early on, but a few timely Syracuse runs put the Eagles in a hole early on.
The second set was more of the same, with BC going up 5-1 early on before Syracuse began to climb back into the set. A 12-9 lead for the Eagles quickly turned into a 17-15 deficit before BC made their biggest run of the day, taking five straight points to go up 20-17. Syracuse came back strong, however, taking eight of the next ten points to win the set 25-22 and go up 2-0.
The Eagles were not able to stretch the match out past a third set, as Syracuse again took the final set 25-18 and finished the day off by taking the last six points after BC had fought back and made the score 19-18.
The loss drops BC to 0-5 on the season. They’ll have another chance to pick up their first win tomorrow, when they take on Syracuse again starting at 5 PM.
