The Boston College women’s volleyball team dropped both matches against ACC opponent Pittsburgh this weekend, falling 3-1 and 3-0 on Friday and Saturday night respectively. This is the second straight weekend that BC has been swept to start their season, and they are now 0-4.
Saturday night’s loss was a 3-0 sweep by the Panthers, with BC pushing their opponents at times but failing to take a set. After Pitt rolled to a 25-10 first set victory, the Eagles made a strong bid in set two, taking a 20-18 lead before a mini run by Pitt gave them a close 25-23 win. Set three was more of the same, with Pitt always leading by a few points almost the entire way through en route to a 25-19 victory and a sweep to cap the weekend series.
Friday night started in much the same way, with Pitt rolling to a 25-9 victory in set one before the Eagles fought back. BC their only set of the weekend in set 2 with a 25-19 victory to level the match at 1-1. And while the Eagles kept it close in the final two sets, Pitt was too much to overcome, winning set 3 25-18 and set 4 25-19 to secure the victory.
BC’s season continues next weekend with another Friday/Saturday matchup against Syracuse. The Eagles will look to start turning their season around against an opponent that they dropped two close matches to last season.
