The Boston College women’s basketball team is now 1-2 in ACC play this season after defeating Pittsburgh by a score of 79-70 yesterday. The Eagles were led by Marnelle Garraud and Makyala Dickens, who combined for more than half of BC’s total points - Dickens scored a season high 26 points and Garraud added 18.
Pitt was leading by 4 points after the first quarter, but the Eagles took a 1 point lead into halftime. Both teams scored 21 points in the third, but BC dominated 22-14 in the final period of play to take the win. The Eagles shut down the Panthers in the final minutes of play, allowing 0 field goals in the last 3 minutes of the game.
In addition to Garraud and Dickens’ big performances, Emma Guy and Cameron Swartz added 11 points each and Taylor Soule just missed a double-double with 10 rebounds and 9 points.
The Eagles shot 50% on field goals and 52.9% on 3-pointers, and they outrebounded Pittsburgh 41-35. BC did make 18 turnovers which led to 23 points for Pittsburgh, so that continues to be an area that needs work.
