BC Men’s Hockey defeats #13 UMass-Lowell, 3-2

Tsongas Arena hasn’t been kind to Boston College recently - the last time the Eagles won at Lowell was in 2012. That changed tonight, as the Eagles came away with a 3-2 win, coming back from a two goal deficit set early in the first period.

At first, the game seemed like it was going to go south extremely quickly. Lowell’s Carl Berglund scored 24 seconds into the first period off a weird bounce. Thirty seconds later, Charlie Levesque scored to double the lead, leaving BC in an early 2-0 hole. Lowell took a penalty at 3:24 of the first, but the Eagles were unable to capitalize and went into the first intermission down two goals.

Around halfway through the second period, Jack McBain took a penalty and it seemed like it was just going to be one of those games. However, Ron Greco broke away during the kill and landed a shot on Tyler Wall and Marc McLaughlin was there to poke the puck in right behind him, getting the Eagles on the board with a shorthanded goal. Three minutes after McLaughlin’s goal, Alex Newhook tied the game up at 2 with an absolute rocket.

Three minutes into the third period, Logan Hutsko gave BC the lead that held for the rest of the night with an incredible individual effort.

The Eagles were able to stave off any Lowell attack for the rest of the period, including killing two Lowell power plays.

After the hiccup at the beginning, the Eagles looked much better as the game went on. Spencer Knight stood tall, making 34 saves on 36 shots. Additionally, with their second period shorthanded goal, BC now leads the country with six total.
