The Boston College volleyball team improved to 4-2 this weekend after going 3-0 in the UConn Challenge, defeating Central Connecticut State University, UConn, and Iona College.
In their first game, against Central Connecticut State, the Eagles earned a 3-1 victory, beating Central Connecticut in the first set by a score of 25-14, losing their only set of the match 25-20 in the second, and then winning sets 3 and 4 by scores of 25-17 and 29-27. BC was led by Cat Balido and Amaka Chukwujekwu with 14 kills each, Madison McKnight with 3 aces and 27 assists, and Torey Baum with 15 digs. Chukwujekwu also led the match with 9 blocks.
UConn gave BC the biggest challenge of the weekend, and the Eagles came away with a 3-2 victory. The Huskies took the first match 25-19, but BC came back to win sets 2 and 3 by scores of 25-16 and 25-13. The Huskies tied things up in the fourth with a 25-15 victory, but the Eagles ran away with things in the tiebreaker, winning 15-8. Jill Strockis had a great game for the Eagles with a match high 3 aces and 16 digs, while Jewel Strawberry led all players with 17 kills.
The Eagles dominated in their final match of the tournament, defeating Iona in straight sets of 25-21, 25-21, and 25-9. Jane DeJarld was the star of the game for BC with 19 assists and 12 digs, and Jewel Strawberry led the match in kills for the second time this weekend with 15.
