In front of a home crowd at Newton Soccer Field, the Boston College men’s soccer team continued its winning ways by defeating Rhode Island 2-1 Friday afternoon.
The goal scoring started in the 13th minute. Amos Shapiro-Thompson started what was a strong day for the freshman by generating a breakaway that led to a goal, his second on the year. However, Giacomo Piccardo conceded his first career collegiate goal minutes later when Simon Trcka scored off a rebound from Even Akselsen. The two teams went into halftime tied at one.
The game was contentious until the 87th minute, when Stefan Sigurdarson rifled a shot in from the 18 past Stefan Schmidt to give the Eagles the lead and eventually the win.
The Eagles will go on a two game road trip, first taking on Holy Cross next Tuesday in Worcester before starting ACC play against North Carolina State in Raleigh.
