In just the first minute of the game last night, the Eagles were awarded a penalty shot, taken by Gabby Carreiro. Though Melissa Dagenais, the Miami keeper, correctly guessed the direction, she wasn’t able to reach the right post in time as Carreiro buried the ball into the back corner of the net. The rest of the first half was fairly quiet with Allie Augur only having to make one save. Like the first half, just over a minute into the second, Samantha Agresti sent the ball from the middle of the field to Olivia Vaugh running up the right wing. Vaugh took one touch before volleying a shot over the head of Dagenais for her first goal of the night. Ten minutes later, Vaugh scores again off a cross from Carreiro. The cross is poked just over the line with the defense unable to get back in time to clear it. Finally, with under fifteen minutes left to play, Sam Smith gets her head on a pass from Jade Ruiters for the Eagles’ fourth goal of the night.
The final score remains 4-0 Eagles, and Allie Augur earns her fourth shutout this season with two saves on the night. This was also Vaugh’s second brace, Smith’s eighth goal, and the Eagles’ first penalty shot and conversion of the season. Boston College is back on the Heights this Sunday, Sept. 29 at noon to host Louisville for another ACC matchup.
