The Boston College women’s field hockey team dropped their home opener to Fairfield on Sunday afternoon, falling to the Stags 3-2 in overtime. Fairfield won just 90 seconds into overtime, converting on a penalty corner to hand the Eagles their first defeat of the season.
Fusine Govaert scored her second goal of the season to give BC a 1-0 lead in the first period and Margo Carlin made it 2-0 about 30 minutes later. Fairfield scored two late goals to force overtime before winning it early in the extra frame.
The loss knocks BC to 1-1 on the season. The Eagles have a busy weekend ahead of them, as they travel to Illinois where they will face both Maryland (Friday) and Northwestern (Sunday). They return home on Friday the 13th when they will host Dartmouth.
