Usually, an athlete wouldn’t be inducted into a Hall of Fame until their career had been over for a few years. But if there is one athlete who deserves to be inducted into the BC Interruption Hall of Fame (or really given any BC alumni honor) directly following graduation, it is Sam Apuzzo. Apuzzo is undeniably, one of the best women’s lacrosse players out there, and one of the best athletes to have ever played at Boston College.
In 2018, Apuzzo won the Tewaaraton Award and the Honda Lacrosse Award. She was an IWLCA Player of the Year and ACC Player of the Year in 2018 and 2019. She is a 3-time member of the IWLCA All-America Team, the Inside Lacrosse Pre-Season All America Team, the IWLCA All-Northeast Region First Team, the All ACC Team First Team, the ACC All-Tournament Team, and the NCAA All Tournament Team.
Apuzzo holds program career records in points (390, 81 points ahead of second place) goals (278, 82 goals ahead of second place), and draw controls (444, 161 ahead of second place). She is tied with Kenzie Kent as the fastest player in program history to reach 100 points, doing so in 25 games.
In terms of single season records, Apuzzo holds the first, third, and fourth place program records in points (129, 124, 119), and the top three spots in goals (94, 88, 80). She is tied for second and fourth places for single season assists (41,39) and holds the top two single season draw controls program records (191, 163).
She scored 10 points in a single game on 4 different occasions for the Eagles, and holds the record for most goals scored in a BC game with 9 goals against Navy in 2018 and for most draw controls in a BC game with 17 draw controls wins against Louisville in 2018.
We can only hope that we’ll see another player like Apuzzo playing for BC someday soon!
