BC Women's Soccer Defeats Crosstown Rival BU 3-0

Freshman Allie Augur earns her first career shutout

Boston College Athletics

The Eagles started their game against BU this evening just as they started their game against UMass Lowell earlier this week; quickly and without hesitation. Just under ten minutes into the first period, Captain Gaby Carreiro finds the back of the net from the left corner of the box, taking the early advantage. Five minutes later she’s back up in the box, centering it for Jade Ruiters who beats the goalie inside the right post. At the twenty minute mark, the Terriers attempt to make a comeback but Augur pushes forward and comes up with a massive save to keep BC’s momentum going, so it’s 2-0 going into the second half.

BU, who just came off of a three game road trip, seemed to pick up some steam, only allowing the Eagles one shot in the first twenty or so minutes. The last goal of the game comes from BC junior Gianna Mitchell, securing the win with fifteen minutes left. One more close attempt at a goal each and the Eagles take the night with a final score of 3-0. Not only is it the teams’ fifth consecutive win over the Terriers, it’s also Allie Augur’s first career shutout with two huge saves.

BC hits the road for the first time this season on Sunday to take on the Princeton Tigers at 7pm. The Tigers’ first game is tomorrow, and it’ll be an interesting matchup as they went 11-4-2 last season.
