Boston College GIF of the Year: Quarterfinals, Matchup #3

All I Have To GIF

NCAA Football: Boston College at Wake Forest Jeremy Brevard-USA TODAY Sports

Two matchups down, with two GIFs on to the semifinals. In our second quarterfinal matchup, we saw Michael Walker’s punt return touchdown against Clemson — the high water mark for the entire BC Athletics year, perhaps? — easily take down Kali Flanagan’s miraculous game-tying goal in the Women’s Hockey East championship. Walker will take on AJ Dillon in the first semifinal on Monday.

And now, we’re on to our third pair of quarterfinalists!

Dickens Is The Hero

One of the most exciting moments of the early part of the year saw Makayla Dickens sink Duke on a last-second shot after a wild back-and-forth game between the two ACC squads. You can read the full BCI game recap here, but the fourth quarter and beyond was thrilling basketball where you truly never got a chance to catch your breath. Dickens found the winner with 0.3 seconds to play, and found her way into the BCI GotY tournament to boot.

Apuzzo’s 2OT Winner

Two GIFs, two 2OT winners. Sam Apuzzo’s game-winning goal in double overtime against North Carolina to avenge the ACC Championship Game loss and advance to the national championship game was an incredible moment for the university — and in fact, was named both Game of the Year and Play of the Year in this summer’s BC Interruption Awards. Is it also enough to take the crown for GIF of the Year as well?

Let’s check in on our updated bracket:

You have until 11:30am on Thursday to vote on today’s GIF. Our final pair of quarterfinalists will be released at noon!
