BC squared off with #1 seeded Louisville needing a win to keep their season alive, and advance to the semifinals of the ACC tournament.

The Eagles sent their senior ace Dan Metzdorf to the mound, and he was absolutely dealing. Metzdorf went the distance, holding Louisville to an unearned run on three hits, four walks, and seven strikeouts.

BC threatened a few times early, before breaking through with a bases loaded single off the bat of Jake Alu that scored two in the bottom of the 4th.

The Cardinals scored their only run in the 7th. After a leadoff walk, Metzdorf threw away a pickoff attempt, and the runner advanced to third when Cody Morissette dropped the ball out of play. The runner then came home on a grounder to Morissette.

With nobody on and two out in the bottom of the 7th, Brian Dempsey reached on an error. After a Jack Cunningham walk, Gian Martellini singled home Dempsey, then Joe Suozzi drove in Cunningham to make it 4-1.

BC added another insurance run in the 8th when Alu tagged one off the wall for an RBI double.

It was Metzdorf’s game to finish in the 9th, and he was up to the task. After allowing a walk and a hit, he induced a 5-5-3 double play. Another walk put runners at the corners, but Metzdorf recorded his seventh strikeout of the day to close out a huge 5-1 win.

Up next: The Eagles will take on the winner of Pool D on Saturday at 1pm.
