2019 Men’s Frozen Four Rooting Guide: Denver

Here’s why you should root for Denver to win the 2019 Men’s Frozen Four

NCAA Hockey: Frozen Four-Denver vs Minnesota-Duluth David Banks-USA TODAY Sports

Every year, BC Interruption makes the case to root for each of the four teams in the men’s Frozen Four because we are “BC Hockeyrruption.” This year, I think BC fans should root for Denver.

So why Denver?

First of all, BC had a mediocre team this year but still beat UMass once and Providence four times this season. Sure that means we could say BC beat the NCAA champion if one of those teams wins, but also... does a team that lost to a mediocre BC team really deserve to win? (I love BC hockey more than anyone, but they only won 14 games this year...). So that leaves Duluth or Denver, both members of the maroon-ish and gold alliance. Since Duluth won last year, let’s give it back to Denver even though they won just two years ago.

Another reason to pick Denver if you’re deciding between Denver and Duluth is that Denver has a Finnish player (Jaakko Heikkinen) and Duluth has no Finns. Any supporter of BC men’s hockey should support Finnish NCAA players in honor of the Mattilas and Räsänen.

Finally, and perhaps most importantly, if Denver wins the Frozen Four, the bracket that my cats created by eating treats off of slips of paper for each matchup will come in second out of forty brackets in Grant’s bracket competition. Whether you like cats (or me) or not, I think we can all agree that it is going to be pretty funny if a bracket randomly selected by cats beats a bunch of die-hard college hockey fans.

So if you a) are petty like me and don’t like seeing other Hockey East teams win things and/or b) support Finland and/or c) appreciate the humor of animals placing in a bracket competition, you should root for Denver.
