At some point people have to sit back in wonder not only at the run that BC women’s lacrosse is going on, not just in terms of wins and losses (or lack thereof), but the clinical manner that the team is going about one of the most remarkable seasons in BC athletics history.
That much was clear watching BC dismantle No. 7 Virginia 16-9 in Newton Saturday afternoon. In a game where the Eagles outscored the Cavaliers 10-1 in the first half, the game never seemed in doubt.
The hero of the game, naturally, was Sam Apuzzo who, despite having to deal with tight defense all game, still managed to put up six goals in the effort.
But it was not just Apuzzo in the effort. Cara Urbank and Dempsy Arsenault both contributed hat tricks of their own, and seven BC players recorded a point in the effort.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is why BC is so hard to beat. Not unlike a Hydra, cutting off one head is not enough to kill the beast. This team is so good that it can beat you in so many different ways, and Saturday’s game against Virginia showed that. Even the No. 7 team in the country couldn’t keep up with the Eagles.
This team is truly special. Keep an eye on it.
BC welcomes rival No. 9 Notre Dame to Newton April 3 in its next game.
