After it was announced earlier this week that Oliver Wahlstrom would not be returning to Boston College, the New York Islanders have signed him to a three-year, entry-level contract. The ELC will begin next year - Wahlstrom is expected to sign an amateur tryout agreement with the Islanders’ AHL affiliate, the Bridgeport Soundtigers, to close out the 2018-19 season.
Wahlstrom, who played just one season at BC, struggled to live up to the hype surrounding him. The 11th overall pick in last year’s NHL Entry Draft, Wahlstrom scored just 8 goals in 36 games this season. He was starting to really develop and show flashes of brilliance as the season wound down.
Hopefully the Islanders are able to help Wahlstrom’s development so that he can grow into his full potential as a player. Best of luck to him as he pursues a pro career!
