After a mediocre regular season, the Boston College men’s hockey team has gotten hot at the right time. The Eagles will play in the Hockey East Tournament Finals tomorrow evening after earning a stunning upset over #1 seed UMass tonight.
David Cotton, who has been BC’s star offensive player this year, scored with 12.3 seconds left in the first period to put BC on top, and the Eagles maintained the momentum through the rest of the game. Chris Grando put the Eagles up 2-0 in the third, and Julius Mattila scored an empty netter late in the game to secure a 3-0 victory for BC.
Joe Woll, who has had a great season for BC despite some disappointing outcomes, recorded his third shutout (and second shutout win) of the season tonight. The victory also marked Coach York’s 600th as BC’s head coach.
The Eagles will face Northeastern in the Championship Game tomorrow night, and must win if they want their season to continue - winning this tournament is BC’s only way to make the NCAA Tournament.
