Boston College v. UMass Lowell: Final Thoughts and Predictions

Andy Powers controls the puck

In the euphoria of winning the game Monday afternoon at the TD Garden, my mind instantly went to the Beanpot Championship game against Northeastern- so much so that I completely forgot to send out the predictions email for Friday’s game against UMass Lowell until Thursday afternoon.

It’s understandable to see why I forgot the game. It’s a problem that faces the Eagles. After winning the biggest game of the season so far, BC has to play an admittedly important game against UMass Lowell at the Tsongas Center.

To be fair, BC has historically been strong in the Friday game in between the Beanpot. The Eagles are 2-1-0 in the last three games in between the Beanpot. Here’s what to keep an eye on.

  1. Keep the Foot on the Gas: BC got killed in the two games previously against UMass Lowell, because, inevitably, BC would have a tough period that sets them back. The second and third periods of the away game were particularly bad, as was the third period of the home game. BC was competitive when playing up to snuff, but it has to stay there.
  2. Get Shots on Hernberg, if he plays: UMass Lowell’s starter, Tyler Wall, is statistically one of the best in the country. If, however, Herberg plays instead, the Eagles have an opportunity to take advantage if they get shots on. Hernberg’s save percentage is pedestrian, so the Eagles could have an opening there.
  3. Don’t Look Past the Game: This game is still important for the Hockey East race. Don’t look past it.

Random, Possibly Incorrect Fact From UMass Lowell’s Wikipedia Page

Predictions:

I can’t bet on BC after what has happened previously. However, I do think a tie is in the cards.
