Game Day Facts

Who

Boston College Eagles (5-5) at

#16 Notre Dame Fighting Irish (8-2)

What

BC is running out of time to reach bowl eligibility, and an upset over the Irish would not only accomplish that, but it would provide something that this program is in desperate need of: excitement. But the odds are pretty long; the Eagles enter as 20.5 point underdogs, and the ESPN Matchup Predictor gives them just a 7.2% chance of victory (for whatever that’s worth).

After running off 6 consecutive wins against ND, BC dropped the next 6...so, time for it to swing back the other way, right?

BC’s Best Chance to Win

Catch the Irish sleeping and create some turnovers. This season, the formula for a BC victory has been enough offensive output to mitigate an awful defense. Notre Dame features a top 20 defense in points allowed, however their run defense is not tremendous, and BC has the 5th best rushing attack in the nation (disclaimer: Navy boasts the #1 rushing offense, and ND beat them 52-20 last week).

If the Eagles can win the turnover battle, control the clock, and figure out how to tackle, maybe they can keep it close. They played their best game of the year coming out of the bye week against NC State, so let’s hope for more of the same.
