The Boston College field hockey team’s season came to an end today after a 6-3 loss to undefeated, #1 UNC in the Final Four. The Eagles will end the year having made the ACC Championship Game and the team’s first ever Final Four, led by freshman Margo Carlin who recorded 20 goals, 6 assists, and 46 points this season.

Boston College took the early lead as Margo Carlin scored under a minute into the game, but UNC tied things up 6 minutes later. The Eagles second and final lead of the game came early in the second period, as Carlin scored her 20th goal of the season. Unfortunately, UNC tied things up at 2 a minute and a half later, and the Tar Heels kept rolling for the rest of the game, scoring 4 more goals before the end of play. The Eagles did tack on a final goal with just a couple minutes to play in the game with Brigid Wood’s 4th tally of the season.

In total, the Eagles had 4 shots on goal and 2 saves, while UNC picked up 8 shots on goal and 1 save.

Although this is a disappointing outcome for BC, UNC has been on a completely different level all year, and there is no shame in losing to them.

Looking forward, the Eagle are returning their top 7 scorers next season. The question mark for the 2020 Eagles will be goaltending, as Sarah Dwyer, who had a standout year, graduates this spring.
