Game Day Facts

Who

Boston College Eagles (4-4) vs

Syracuse Orange (3-5)

What

The Eagles won’t have long to lick their wounds, as they go from one tough environment to another as they travel to the Carrier Dome to face the Orange. Syracuse has been one of the ACC’s biggest disappointments this year as they’re winless in the conference this year. The trip to upstate New York could be a great chance for BC to get back on track with another important conference win.

BC’s Best Chance to Win

BC rushes for 300 yards and minimizes pre-snap penalties

The story this week is about the same as it’s been all year long. BC needs to put up a lot of points in order to balance out the points its defense might give up. Syracuse is not the opponent that many believed they’d be at the start of the season. Against NC State the Orange only put up ten points, while against that same defense BC rushed for over 400 yard and put up 45 points. Syracuse’s offensive numbers aren’t remarkable (247.4 passing and 120.3 rushing) but they’re good enough that the Eagles will need to score at least score 35 points. With a backup QB and Addazio’s playcalling, the only way for BC to do that is to run, run, run, and then maybe go play action pass…maybe.

This game will be more challenging due to the Carrier Dome’s loud and raucous atmosphere where Syracuse has played some of its best football (minus the Clemson game). The Eagles will have to work on their silent counts to avoid costly pre-snap penalties that are common in loud environments. BC is not a team that can play behind the chains. With the crowd noise and a backup QB, I don’t believe this is the game to try and air it out. Furthermore, the best way to take the crowd out of the game are with long scoring drives, something that should be right in the Eagles’ wheelhouse.
