The Boston College field hockey team closed their regular season in impressive fashion on Friday, defeating fourth ranked Duke 1-0 in Newton. The Eagles close the regular season with an 11-6 record and a 4-2 record in ACC play, good for their most in conference wins since joining the ACC.
Fusine Govaert scored the game’s only goal in the second half, burying a ball off of a penalty corner for her seventh of the season. The goal came in the 50th minute after a strong push in from BC that saw them control play against Duke for a decent stretch. Sarah Dwyer did the job in goal for the Eagles, making three saves to collect her sixth shutout of the season.
Up next for BC is the ACC Tournament, where they are still waiting to see who they will play. The Eagles have secured a top 3 seed, but still need to wait to see how some other final games play out before they learn who they will face in the opening round. The tournament starts on Thursday and will be hosted by Boston College this year in Newton.
