David Cotton was the first star of the game tonight, with a goal and an assist in tonight’s 5-1 victory over UVM, his 100th and 101st points as an Eagles. This is BC’s second 5-1 victory in a row after beating UConn by the same score last Saturday.
The Eagles got on the board early in tonight’s matchup, taking a 1-0 lead off a Mike Hardman goal just over 2 minutes into the game.
BC’s next goal, which was awarded to David Cotton, was part of a truly wild series of events early in the second period. BC goalie Spencer Knight came out of the net to clear a puck, the UVM player got the puck back while Knight was still out of the net, BC’s defense and Knight scrambled and were able to stop UVM from scoring, BC took the puck down to the other end of the ice, and a UVM player appeared to tip the puck into his own net.
The Catamounts scored their only goal of the game minutes later, almost immediately upon going on the power play, but great passing from the BC first line set up Logan Hutsko for a great goal and BC entered the third period up 3-1.
Alex Newhook added a goal 90 second into the third period and Jack McBain picked up a late empty netter for a final score of 5-1. Spencer Knight made 27 saves in the game.
Like UConn, UVM isn’t particularly good this season, but seeing BC completely dominate for 3 straight games is reassuring, even if the opponents aren’t the best.
The Eagle will look to add onto their winning streak tomorrow night at 7 PM, again at UVM.
