After beating Holy Cross on the road this past Thursday, BC Women’s Hockey traveled up to Syracuse to take on the Orange at Tennity Ice Pavilion. The Eagles won with a score of 4-3, while landing 22 shots on goal. Cayla Barnes, Hannah Bilka, and Kelly Browne all had two points each during the game.
Barnes scored her first goal of the season from the slot at 4:37 of the first period with an assist from Browne. Lindsay Agnew’s first goal of the season followed, scored at 6:23 of the second period with an assist by Savannah Norcross.
While up 2-0, the Eagles surrendered a power play goal scored by Syracuse’s Emma Polaski towards the end of the second period.
At the beginning of the third period, Bilka capitalized on a power play and put the Eagles up 3-1, and Kelly Browne earned her second point of the afternoon. Barnes shortly followed up with her second goal of the game at 4:53 of the third period, assisted by Bilka and Olivia Finocchiaro.
The last two goals were scored by Syracuse’s Jessica Digirolamo and Anonda Hoppner. The latter being scored on a power play along with an extra attacker on the ice, but BC held on for the win. BC went 1-3 on the power play while allowing Syracuse to go 2-6 on theirs.
Maddy McArthur stood tall during the game, making 33 saves on 36 total shots, 20 of those saves during the third period.
BC ends their season-beginning road trip 4-0, and will have a week off before they play their home opener on Friday, October 18, when they host Merrimack at 6:00 PM.
