Eagles Defeated by No. 1 Virginia

Gaby Carreiro’s goal put an end to UVA’s seven game shutout streak

Boston College Athletics, John Quackenbos

Despite this afternoon’s loss to No. 1 Virginia, the Eagles managed to end the Cavalier’s seven game shutout streak with a goal from Captain Gaby Carreiro. UVA scored twice in the first half, first off a loose ball in the Eagles’ box by UVA’s Meghan McCool in the fourteenth minute. The second goal came in the last few minutes of the half from Ashlynn Serepca.

UVA quickly added two more goals early in the second half, with Serepca scoring again and McCool almost got a second goal. Allie Augur got there for the initial stop but Cavalier Sydney Zandi was able to convert the rebound to a goal from the six. The Eagles attempt at a comeback came with Gaby Carreiro’s fifth goal of the season; after carrying the ball from the half, she found the back of the net from about 20 yards out. However, the goal wasn’t enough momentum to get the Eagles moving. UVA scored another two goals within three minutes of each other in the last fifteen, courtesy of Courtney Peterson and Emma Dawson. BC took back some control in the final minutes, but were ultimately unable to score again.

The Eagles are back on the Heights again this Thursday, Oct. 31 to wrap up the regular season by hosting Clemson at 7pm.
