BC’s Maddie Murphy came up with three huge saves to keep the game scoreless into the second half last night. Then, with twenty minutes of play left, Olivia Vaugh and Sam Smith won the ball around midfield, and Vaugh sent a pass to the left that was received by Gaby Carreiro. Carreiro took one touch before launching the ball over the Tech goalie to the far post just under the crossbar for her fourth goal of the season.
Six minutes later, the Hokies were awarded a free kick from twenty two yards out that Kelsey Irwin was able to convert into a goal with a shot over the wall and into the upper left corner. In the 84’, Irwin took a second free kick that she sent, once again, into the top left corner to take the lead, and the score would remain 1-2 with a win for Virginia Tech.
Despite the loss to No. 25 ranked Virginia Tech, the Eagles were still successful, with Carreiro’s fourth goal of the season, and Vaugh’s assist earned her five points so far for the year – a team high. Maddie Murphy also made her second start of the season with four saves on the night, a career high. The Eagles will stay on the road and in Virginia this weekend, taking on UVA this Sunday, Oct. 27 at 1pm.
