The Boston College men’s hockey team defeated Colgate 3-0 today, improving to 2-0 on the season and winning their second straight non-conference game. The Eagles were assisted by fantastic goalkeeping from freshman Spencer Knight, who recorded 39 saves in the win.
Luke McInnis scored the game-winning goal in this evening’s game, taking a great David Cotton feed and putting it into the back of the net. Just 17 seconds into the second period Logan Hutsko added to BC’s lead, and captain David Cotton scored a power play goal in the third period for a 3-0 final score. Julius Mattila assisted on each of BC’s 3 goals.
While the Eagles offense was hot, this team does still have some major areas to work on. In particular, the Eagles really need to control their penalties - BC took 8 penalties in today’s game, and Knight’s goaltending saved them big time on the penalty kill.
Unfortunately, both of BC’s top players appeared to get injured in today’s game: Logan Hutsko left in the second period with a leg injury, and David Cotton was downed by an elbow to the head with seconds remaining. We will update when we have further information about both injuries.
