The Boston College field hockey team improved to 7-3 this weekend with a 3-0 victory over Fairfield. The Eagles now have 3 straight shutouts, and have outscored their last 3 opponents 11-0. Additionally, 5 of BC’s 7 victories have been shutouts.
The Eagles outshot Fairfield 15-4 and had 7 corners to Fairfield’s 1, making this a rather one-sided game. BC did not manage to break through until 22 minutes into the game, when Brooke Matherson scored off of a penalty shot rebound. Matherson also scored BC’s second goal of the game, and the Eagles went into the locker room at halftime with a 2-0 lead.
Junior Emily Buttinger scored the only goal of the second half, rebounding off of the goalie’s save of Elizabeth Warner’s shot. This was Buttinger’s first goal of the season, and Warner’s second assist of the game. The Eagles were unable to get anymore goals past Fairfield’s goalie, and walked away with a solid 3-0 victory to extend their winning streak to 4 games.
