After winning only 7 games last season, Boston College women’s volleyball is off to their best start ever after winning 3 games this weekend and improving to 6-0.
The Eagles started the weekend with a 3-2 victory over Jacksonville State on Friday. Jacksonville won the first set by a score of 25-19, but BC won sets 2 and 3 both by scores of 25-20. Jacksonville came back with a 25-15 win in set 4, but the Eagles ultimately took the match with a 16-15 victory in the final set. Jill Strockis had her first double-double of the season with 10 kills and 11 digs, and Cat Balido had a solid 14 kills and 5 blocks. Sophomore Makenzie Morrison led the game with 31 digs.
In game 2, BC earned a 3-0 victory over Southern Utah. BC won in straight sets, with scores of 26-24, 25-20, and 25-14. Jill Strockis led the game with 15 kills and had only 3 errors, while Makenzie Morris led all plays in digs again, this time with 22.
In the final game of the weekend, the Eagles shut out Grand Canyon University in straight sets of 25-17, 25-17, and 25-13. Amaka Chukwujekwu had a career high 11 kills in the game, Jill Strockis recorded 11 kills and 11 digs, and Madison McKnight picked up a career high 3 aces.
Next weekend, the Eagles will look to extend their winning streak as they head up to New Hampshire for the Dartmouth Invitational.
