After defeating Quinnipiac 7-0 in their first game of the season, Boston College field hockey dropped 2 straight games in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. BC is now 1-2 on the season.

On Friday, the Eagles fell to Maryland by a score of 3-2. Brooke Matherson started the scoring by deflecting a rebound and putting BC up 1-0. Maryland scored 8 minutes later and the teams went into halftime tied. The Terps opened the scoring in the second half, but Frederique Haverhals tied things right back up just 2 minutes later off of a penalty corner. At minute 68, Maryland scored the final goal of the game to take the win.

Earlier today, the Eagles lost another game by a score of 3-2, this time in double overtime to Northwestern. Yet again, BC opened the scoring, this time with a Frederique Haverhals goal off of a penalty corner. Northwestern’s Puck Pentenga then scored 2 straight goals to give her team the lead, but Sky Caron tied the game off a penalty at 69:56, sending the game into overtime. The first overtime ended scoreless, but Northwestern earned the win in second overtime with a goal off of a corner.

The Eagles return to action at 6 PM on Friday when they open the season at home with an ACC match-up against Wake Forest.
