Boston College Men’s Soccer Goes into Providence and Earns a Draw

The Heights

In a chippy battle with the Friars, Boston College men’s soccer played to a draw in Providence, earning a point. In the first 35 minutes, there were over 15 fouls, multiple yellow cards, and a goal for each team. Beto Luna, who would be issued a red card in the 75th minute, opened the scoring with a header off of a cross from Callum Johnson. Providence’s goal was much less smooth, a deflected shot in a crowded box that got past sophomore goalkeeper Antonio Chavez Borelli. Borelli had the best game of his career, registering 9 saves for his career high.

Despite the Eagles getting outshot 21-5, they were able to earn a point, even playing with only ten men for the final 15 minutes of regulation and all of overtime. If Chavez Borelli can continue to play at a high level, he should be able to lock up the starting job and give the Eagles a chance in ACC play, which starts with a battle against the Clemson Tigers in Newton on Friday, September 7.
