The BC women’s soccer team passed their first test against a ranked opponent this season, defeating #21 Texas Tech 1-0. Sophomore Gianna Mitchell struck early with her fifth goal of the season off a corner kick at 9:26. Sam Coffey racked up another assist on the play; Coffey and Mitchell lead the team in scoring with 14 and 10 points respectively. Despite taking 18 shots and putting 5 on goal, the Red Raiders could not get anything past Alexis Bryant and a stout Eagle defense comprised of Mitchell, Rachel Newborough, Kayla Duran, Elysa Virella, and Erin Convery. The Eagles have not given up a goal in the past five games.
With conference play approaching, BC remains perfect so far at 6-0-0. They are off to their best start since 2009, when the squad opened the season 9-0-0. The Eagles will make the short trip to BU on Thursday at 7PM, and then return to Newton to face Temple at 1PM on Sunday.
