The Boston College field hockey team ended a brief two game losing streak with a strong weekend, knocking off teams from Wake Forest and Albany in their first two home games of the season.
The Eagles opened up ACC play on Friday with a 4-3 win over Wake Forest that took double overtime to decide. Frederique Haverhals scored the game winner for BC when she scored on a rebound. The goal completed a comeback for an Eagles’ team that had trailed 3-1 early in the second half. Goals from Brooke Matherson and Elizabeth Warner brought BC back to even to send the game into overtime. Lucy Lytle opened the scoring for BC just six minutes into the game.
On Sunday, BC knocked off Albany 1-0 behind a strong performance by goalie Sarah Dwyer and a timely goal from Fusine Govaert. Dwyer made seven saves en route to her second shutout of the season and Govaert put home a rebound in the second half for her third goal of the season to wrap up a perfect weekend for the Eagles.
BC’s two win weekend saw them improve to 3-2 on the season and 1-0 in ACC play. They will travel to face off with Louisville on Saturday in their only game of the weekend before returning to Boston to face off with Northeastern next Tuesday in a midweek game.
