The Boston College Field Hockey season got off to a strong start on Friday afternoon, with the Eagles shutting out Quinnipiac 7-0 in the opener in Connecticut. Six different Eagles scored goals and Sarah Dwyer stopped the only shot she saw as BC got up early and never looked back.
Fusine Govaert opened the scoring with the first of her two goals on the afternoon just under 90 seconds into the game. She added her second 20 minutes later with Elizabth Warner and Brooke Matherson adding tallies in between, sending BC into the half with a 4-0 lead.
Cassidy Atchison, Nell Webber, and Jaime Natale all scored in the second half to round out the day for BC. The win kept BC’s perfect record against Quinnipiac in tact and runs their streak of opening day wins to 11, dating back to 2008.
Next up for the Eagles will be the ACC/Big Ten Cup, where they will play two games in Maryland against Maryland and Northwestern respectively. The home opener is slated for September 7th, when BC will also open ACC play as they welcome Wake Forest to Newton Campus
