BC women’s soccer took the field on Newton Campus tonight after a brief weather delay and defeated the Quinnipiac Bobcats 4-2 in their first match of the year. The Eagles featured two new starters- freshman defender Kayla Duran and international graduate student Rachel Newborough. Junior Gaby Carreiro also returned to the starting lineup after missing the 2017 season with an injury and quickly put the Eagles on the board at 11:45 with a goal off an assist from Jenna Bike. Junior Olivia Vaughn added a second goal from inside the left post to give the Eagles the 2-0 lead, but Quinnipiac was able to put two goals past BC keeper Alexis Bryant in the final six minutes even up the score at halftime.
Vaughn and Carreiro struck again in the second half- Vaughn with a breakaway at 51:29 and Carriero with a penalty kick goal at 76:49. That would be enough and the Eagles would pull out the 4-2 win to start the year with a 1-0 record. The Eagles outshot Quinnipiac 17-7, with 9 shots on goal. They will travel across town to take on the Huskies at Northeastern on Sunday at 1 PM in search of a 2-0 start to the year.
