Earlier this week, Akunna Konkwo announced her commitment to Boston College to play basketball. Konkwo, a 6’3 center, is a top 100 player and ESPN ranks her as the #12 center in the class of 2019.
Konkwo’s top 10 included school’s like Texas, Louisville, and Kentucky, so her commitment is an early sign that new head coach Joanna Bernabei-McNamee is already changing the perception of Boston College women’s basketball.
Konkwo, who is entering her senior year at Bishop Ireton, has been the team’s star player since she joined. As a sophomore she averaged over 20 points a game and registered a double-double in nearly every match. She has helped to lead her school from the bottom of the pack to the top in a tough high school conference, an experience that will benefit her when she gets to Boston College.
Scouting reports show that Konkwo has continued to improved throughout her high school years, while remaining a physical player that pounds the glass.
