Boston College Softball Falls to Notre Dame in the ACC Tournament

The Eagles have been knocked out in the first round.

The Boston College softball team was knocked out of the ACC Tournament yesterday, falling to #5 Notre Dame in the first round. The Eagles, who were the fourth seed, and 10-29 against the Fighting Irish overall and 1-7 when facing Notre Dame on neutral ground. The Eagles and the Fighting Irish are 2-2 this season.

Two solo home runs got Notre Dame off to an early lead, and BC couldn’t manage to catch up. The Eagles ultimately dropped the game by a score of 6-1. The Eagles were outhit 9-2 in the matchup. Carly Severini and Chloe Sharabba picked up BC’s two hits, Sharabba’s RBI single allowed Olivia Markopoulos to score the Eagles’ lone run of the game. Markopoulous reached third via a walk, a wild pitch, and a ground out and was then able to score on Sharabba’s left side single.

Jessica Dreswick pitched 2 innings for the Eagles, allowing 4 hits, 5 runs, and 4 earned runs. RS junior Allyson Frei finished the game, allowing 5 hits and 1 run over 5 innings. Frei also recorded 4 strikeouts.

The Eagles will now await the NCAA selectionshow to discover if their season will continue. The 2018 softball selection show airs on Sunday, May 13 at 10 p.m.
